GRAFFITI TOUR

Graffiti

A tour of independent art galleries in Rome - Street art from Pigneto to Torpignattara.

People know that in Rome beauty can be found everywhere, even without looking for it.
The center of the city is an example of that. It is the Rome of the emperors, of the popes, of Dolce Vita that is in the imagination  of everyone.
Rather, my interest is in an other side of Rome, more hidden but not less interesting, even if you don’t find Rome’s street art in a guide book.

But where can you find this treasure?

The starting point of the tour is Porta Maggiore, few hundreds meters away from San Lorenzo Guest House.
From Porta Maggiore, using the tramway line 14, we will reach quickly Pigneto neighborhood.  Pigneto is the first graffiti area of the tour.
The graffiti that can be seen in Via Fanfulla da Lodi are inspired by the work of Pierpaolo Pasolini. Pasolini has been a controversial, but established, major figure in the Italian and European literature and cinematic arts in the period following the end Of World War II till his death in 1974. Poet, writer, film director, actor, journalist, painter and political figure, he has left a legacy that is still alive.
Along the same road, you have to stop for a coffeee at Necci, an historical  bar established in 1924.
Not far away there is a  second-hand shop, a records shop and the Nero  Art Gallery.

We will then move to Torpignattara, entering to the first multiethnic  area of Rome with a large Bangla community. Bangla people are  mostly the owners of the fruit and veg shop in the area.
At Torpignattara you will feel like being in another city.
You will be impressed by the sense of community of the neighborhood, a place where people walk around with their traditional clothes, generating a colorful and interesting ambience.
Torpignattara  has been defined the Home of street art in Rome. Here you will see the works of some of the most important artist such Lex and Sten and Areosol, MP5, Atoche, Atlas  just to mention few of them. In addition to thayou will find another art gallery, Wunderkammern, that is specialized in street art.
Our tour ends with the graffiti of Nicola Verlato that is dedicated to the death of Pierpaolo Pasolini.
